About Me
"My love of Horses inspired my love of Art"
"Hello, I'm Teresa," originally from the UK, I spent most of my childhood in a little town situated on the edge of the Bristol Channel. For as long as I can remember I've loved horses and from a very early age I dreamt of having a pony of my own. My dad, however, insisted that it was just a phase that all little girls went through and that I'd 'grow out of it!' - But I had other plans! - I was just seven years old when I came up with the idea that I would save up enough money to buy a pony of my own! The only problem with this idea was that I wasn't getting any money to save :( I decided to try and ask my dad for some pocket money, and to my surprise, he agreed to give me a small amount each week! I was so excited!! I started my 'Pony Fund' and began saving! It took seven long years of determination (and tears) but I never gave up! I was 14 when I bought myself an unbroken 2yr old gelding named Sam and finally made my dream come true!! It was during those years of saving, I discovered my love for drawing horses, I was about 10 when I attempted my first oil painting, (a 'paint by numbers') which sparked my passion for art. Mum used to take me to the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, where I became fascinated by the work of the Old Masters, I could happily have spent hours studying their masterpieces, trying to work out how they achieved such incredible work. After leaving school, I worked at a riding school to support Sam's upkeep, where I later accepted an invitation to join their 12-month BHSAI (British Horse Society Assistant Instructor) / BHSHM (British Horse Society Horse Masters) course as a working pupil. The school had 2 stable cats by the names of Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dumb, and my boss in her infinite wisdom, decided it would be fun to nickname me after one of the cats and from that day on, I was known as "Twee" I am a completely self-taught artist having never had the chance to attend formal art classes beyond school. My journey has been one of trial & error - lots of errors! Although I loved painting in oils, I had never really felt truly satisfied with my work and had often thought about using another medium but was hesitant to do so until I came across some amazing work by artists using soft pastels and impulsively enrolled in a short online tutorial. I felt an immediate connection with this medium and not only found the transition from oils to soft pastels easy, but I also started getting the results I was finally happy with. I had at last found my 'Happy Medium!'

About my Portraits

My Style
I would describe my style as realism with a touch of painterly.
My aim is to create as close a representation as possible to the features & character that is unique to each & every animal that I have the privilege to paint.

Photos
I always work from photos & begin each piece with a vision in mind. However, it is crucial that the photos provided are good quality clear images, as the quality & detail of the finished portrait is fully dependent on the provided photos. Poor quality, blurry photos require some guesswork from me to fill in the details, which may result in a less than accurate representation of your pet. Please Note: Due to copyright law, all photos taken by a professional photographer will require permission from the photographer before I can use them - Most photographers are fine with this.

Materials used
My portraits are created using a variety of soft pastels & pastel pencils on high quality specialty pastel paper. Unlike some other mediums, pastels do not yellow, darken or crack with age. However, because pastels are made from a powdered pigment that has been mixed together with a binder, they have a delicate surface which must be handled with care & framed correctly as the pigment can be easily smeared if touched. All portraits come mounted & ready to frame with a Certificate of Authenticity and information sheet on handling & framing.

"There's a piece of my art in every design!"
A fellow artisan, whom I met for no longer than 5 minutes, told me she had something for me and handed me a piece of paper. The words that were written on the paper resonated with me so much that I thought I'd leave them here:
MADE WITH LOVE
When buying from an artist/maker, you are buying more than just an object... you are buying hundreds of hours of failures and experimentation.
You are buying days, weeks and months of frustration and moments of pure joy.
You aren't just buying a thing, you're buying a piece of heart, part of a soul, a moment of someone's life. Most importantly, you're buying the artist more time to do something they are passionate about.
